California High School Exit Exam Classes (Free)
A free CAHSEE Prep Program will be offered this fall to help students prepare for the California High School Exit Exam. Classes are held Tuesday through Thursday afternoons from 3:00-6:00 pm. The CAHSEE Prep Program is conducted by FSS-Project T.E.C.H. at the Tom Bradley Youth and Family Center. For more information call 323-300-6077.

Uniting Nations
Offering tutoring services for foster youth,
ages 10-13, this school-based,
academic mentoring program is funded by CA Endowment, Dept of Education,
DHHS, Skirball, Weingart, and CA Community Foundations. The program
features screened and qualified mentors 1-3 hrs
per week in workshops and trainings, community/cultural field trips,
and other special events.

Operation READ
Operation READ is a tutoring program for youth at the halls, camps, and, in partnership with community based organizations, throughout the County of Los Angeles at schools, housing authorities and parks. The program goals are to build the youth’s literacy skills to include reading, comprehension, writing, and spelling. Academic mentors work with the youth one-to-one and in small groups, three to five hours per week to provide a variety of instructional approaches individualized to the learner. Tutors strive to engage the youth and make learning fun.
Youth qualify for the free tutoring resources that are:
• Two or more grade levels behind in reading
• Receiving direct services through the Probation Department
• Part of the “Outreach” to children with family members (living in the home) that are
receiving Probation services
• Foster youth
• Identified by the school or DPO as “At-risk”
• Referred by the Delinquency Court, DPO, school, or Holder of Education Rights

Para Los Niños - Youth
Development Services
Para Los Niños Youth Development Services (YDS) is a program approved by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to provide current and former foster and probation youth, between 14 and their 21st birthday, living in SPA 6 (South Los Angeles, Watts, Compton, Paramount and Lynwood) with Independent Living Skills and related type services. Services
include Life Skills Training classes, tutoring and mentoring.

Free Help for Youth Preparing for High School Exit Exam
Culver City Adult School is offering a California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Prep class. This class will help students prepare to master the skills needed to pass both the Math and English portions of the CAHSEE. The class is absolutely FREE, and is being offered to both adult school and high school students, Monday through Thursday 6:30 to 9:30 pm and Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. SEA Highschool Girl's Academy
The all Girl's Academy
at SEA High School currently has open enrollment.

If you are a probation or at-risk student behind in your grades,
or if you need to make up credits to go back to your home school,
the Girl's Academy at SEA High School offers smaller classroom settings,
individualized tutoring, services for pregnant teens, as well as
drug and alcohol classes on site if needed. We accept
IEP students.

Program (YESS-ILP)
Youth Empowerment Strategies for
Success (YESS) is a comprehensive and integrated program
that unites community partners and academic leaders to empower
foster youth to successfully transition into independent living.
The YESS program provides services that focus on life
skills training and academic performance with the objective
of achieving self-sufficiency.
The YESS-ILP Program offers a series of workshops/resources for foster students
ages 16-21 to develop life skills and learn about our academic/vocational programs.
YESS-ILP participants:
• Learn
how to navigate the opportunities at the Compton Center
• Earn
college units
• Make-up
high school credits
• Learn
about the financial aid process focusing on foster youth
• Receive
information on student services like EOP&S, Transfer Center, and Cal Works
• Receive
assistance with earning a high school diploma
• Earn
job skills and job training
• Receive
employment counseling and exploration
• Learn
how to transition into independent living
• Enjoy
a host field trips, guest speakers and prizes
Participants will get refreshments, a t-shirt, book bag, and school supplies.
If a student completes the YESS-ILP program and registers as a full-time Compton
Center student (12 units or more) the student will be eligible for a Student
Ambassador Job.

Youth Development Services Free Tutoring
•Youth ages 14 or 15 in out of home placement can be referred for an academic assessment.
•
If the student is below grade level, up to 50 hours of tutoring may be provided.
• Youth ages 16 through 20 may also be academically assessed.
•
Those youth assessed to be in need of tutoring will be referred back to the Transition Coordinator.
• All youth, ages 14-20, who have passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) should NOT
be referred for an academic assessment.
The Program is conducted by one of three Contractors, depending on the student’s placement address:
• Service Planning Area (SPA) 1, 5, and 7 — The Community College Foundation (TCCF)
• SPA 2, 3, 4 and 8 — The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC)
• SPA 6 — Para Los Ninos

The Cell Phone Dad Heartline is a round-the-clock, confidential phoneline for children and teens who want and need to talk to a dad about real-life problems and other issues in non-emergency situations. "Cell-Dads" are available 24/7 for fatherly advice and support.

Create Now!
Create Now! is an independent, nonprofit organization that was founded in 1996. Its mission is to change the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. One of Create Now!'s most successful programs has been One-on-One Mentoring. Individuals interested in becoming mentors go through an application process and some training before being paired up with one child for a minimum of one year - although lifetime commitments are desired. Because of this unique, individual pairing, the relationship between the two becomes close and often is one of the most important in that youth's life.

Peace4Kids
Peace4Kids provides a caring mentor for every foster youth and other at-risk youth from the South Los Angeles area enrolled in our program so that none of them are led to failure, but instead are given the formula for success.
